Hobo had it enough, and takes a shotgun in the store, blasting all three of the robbers. Until Trio Robbers, entered the store, wanting to steal money from the cashier, and kill a woman with it's baby. The next day, Hobo appears in a store, wanting to by a lawn mower. Slick gets on top of the Hobo, and carves the word 'HOBO' into the Hobo's chest, which escalates in them throwing the Hobo out from the station into garbage. Little did the Hobo know, the Police is corrupted and lead by The Drake with his sons, which escalates in both Slick and Ivan appearing behind the doors, and attacking the Hobo. The Hobo then speaks to the Chief of the Police station, telling him that they should together capture all of the criminal in the city, and restore what has been ruined. We got a call back in a couple of hours heвЂ™s totally down.The Hobo ends up beating up Slick, for trying to kidnap Abby, a female prostitute which was engaging in sexual-intercourse with him. HeвЂ™s an ocean conservationist and before being a filmmaker, I wanted to be a marine biologist and we connected over those things.

We talked about the movie for maybe 10 minutes and then we bonded over our own inspirations in life. If he had said no, the whole film would have fallen apart. вЂњIt was crazy,вЂќ says Eisener, вЂњbecause it was like a week before production. He didnвЂ™t have balls or meat.вЂќ The actor, who was making a movie in South Africa, did agree to take a Skype meeting with Eisener, but only so he could let him down-face to Internet face. He was like, вЂWhat the f- is this?вЂ™вЂќ In fact, the actor was not overly impressed by the Hobo screenplay and, in particular, the role he was being asked to play. So he took it upon himself to read the script. вЂњBut Rutger, he gets really interested when people tell him heвЂ™s not going to like something. вЂњHis agent read the script and said, вЂRutger, this isnвЂ™t for you, youвЂ™re not going to like it,вЂ™вЂќ explains Eisener.

Instead, Eisener sent the script to the agent of Rutger Hauer, whose films had done so much to inspire the project in the first place. The director originally planned to have Dave Brunt reprise the role, but ultimately realized his hip problem made that impractical.

I think he was just looking for something different.вЂќ FichtmanвЂ™s gung-ho attitude towards the film can be seen in a fake behind-the-scenes YouTube clip during which the producerвЂ™s rumination on tax credits is interrupted when вЂњSlickвЂќ (Gregory Smith) and вЂњIvanвЂќ (Nick Bateman) shoot him in the chest.Д«y the spring of 2010, Eisener had a $3 million budget. Eisener admits he thought the chances of getting Fichtman involved were slim: вЂњI looked up his IMDb page, and I was like, вЂOh my god, heвЂ™s never dabbled in the genre at all. To help secure finance they approached Niv Fichtman, a Canadian producer more accustomed to shepherding such arty projects as Guy MaddinвЂ™s The Saddest Music in the World rather than movies which involve razor blade-covered baseball bats. Given the buzz around Hobo, Eisener, Cotterill, and Davies decided to try and make a feature-length version.

The clip became a YouTube sensation and the Canadian distributors of Grindhouse included the trailer in prints of the movie when the film was released north of the border. In May 2007, Eisener attended the SXSW film festival in Austin to hear Rodriguez announce that his trailer had won the competition. вЂњPeople backed out because of that scene. вЂњWe would have made the film two years ago if that scene was not in the script,вЂќ says Eisener, 28. The problem? For some reason, potential investors didnвЂ™t think the cinemagoing public was dying to see ablaze ankle-biters. The Hobo team were determined to portray the brothers as out-and-out psychopaths and decided to have them set fire to a busload of kids with a flamethrower. Their tale centered on a railroad-riding homeless man who dreams of buying a lawn mower so he can set up a gardening business, but instead becomes embroiled in a blood-drenched feud with a crime family comprising evil patriarch вЂњthe Drake,вЂќ and his two similarly diabolical sons, Slick and Ivan. The (fictional) children in question played a small but crucial part in the script for Hobo that Eisener, his producer Rob Cotterill, and his writer John Davies had cooked up in homage to violent, low budget, вЂ80s action movies - think Rutger Hauer in The Hitcher or Rutger Hauer in The Blood of Heroes or Rutger Hauer inвЂ¦ actually, if youвЂ™re thinking Rutger Hauer, then youвЂ™re probably in the right ballpark. And he would have gotten away with it, too, if it wasnвЂ™t for those pesky kids.
